Valos
Strange shapes rose from the ground in an unrecognizable pattern. They caught the attention of a creature made of shadows, and suddenly life entered the silent place. A rough symphony performed in salutation. Drums began as large paws slapped across the wet asphalt. Heavy breath mimicked the effect of a double bass. A slight wheeze of effort entered it, a basson. And a tuba errupted into a wild howl, all but drowning out all the other parts. Just as quickly as it had started, the music died.
The shadow creature placed down one paw into the moonlight, and manifested itself. Within a few seconds the process was complete, and a large red beast padded towards that which had provoked its curiosity. It circled the thing, and the skin around the great pools of brown contracted in confusion. A step forward, and so moved the long, flapping ears. The black nose inhaled the ancient perfume of dog urine, the decaying feathers of birds, the bitter scent of insect blood; with a subtle but distinct undertone of leather, the sweet scent of cooking grease, the industrial note of poleyster; all touched by the rancid odor of fear and acidic quality of chemicals. The beast wheeled around the source of such an exotic combination once more, then paused to survey his surroudings.
The concrete was spiderwebbed with cracks in a sort of irony. For from these spiderwebs came life insted of it disappearing. The plaza was filled with tough underbrush that survived only because of a disfunctional draining system; everything was damp, and mist beings rose from the sidewalks and floated upward gently. And in the center of the place grew those strange pillars of granite and steel.
The auburn mass convulsed as it sneezed, dispelling the fog from around its face. It remained at its current location for a few moments, then gave the awkward structure a considering glance. Once again it padded across the man-made clearing, only to settle itself beneath his destination. After all, it had caught the beast's fancy...
